Helen Arabell Durrant Adams

Beloved wife, mother grandmother and great-grandmother, Helen Arabell Durrant Adams, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at her home in Lakeside, Arizona. She was 88 years old. Helen was born in Franklin, Idaho on January 7, 1925. She was the eldest of 11 children born to Mary Woodruff Moses and Leon Alonzo Durrant.

Helen was a faithful life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served faithfully in many callings in its various organizations. She had a strong testimony and love for her Savior, Jesus Christ, and always followed his example. She was well known in the Church for her writing talent. She wrote many scripts for Christmas, Easter and other programs. Helen was also very diligent in writing journals, which is a tremendous legacy for her posterity. In addition to her love for writing, Helen loved good literature. She was often requested to recite works from Shakespeare and other classical writers.

Helen was employed for much of her early married life while helping her husband, Wally, through school. While he was attending school in New York City, Helen worked in the office of Dwight D. Eisenhower, who was then the president of Columbia University, just prior to his election as president of the United States. Helen had a good mind for business and owned and operated an employment agency in Phoenix for several years before health issues forced her to sell.

Helen passed on to her posterity the traits she inherited from her stalwart pioneer heritage. Her great-grandfather was Wilford Woodruff, fourth president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her wonderful examples of thrift, honesty, faithfulness, integrity, perseverance, service and love are a blessing to her family.

Helen is survived by her her eternal companion of 69 years, Wallace B. Adams; her 6 children: Lane (Annette) Adams, Trish (Rance) Pullin, Kathy (Gary) Allen, Randy (Shelly) Adams, Jennifer (Larry) Jones, Rebecca (Kevin) Petersen; 3 brothers: Harold Durrant, Wendell Durrant, Don Durrant; 4 sisters: Aletha Lee, Margie Robinson, Norene Robinson, Marilyn Cox; 32 grandchildren and 72 (and counting) great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Carol Rader, Thelma Sharp and 1 brother, Ernest Durrant.

The funeral service will begin 10:00 A.M., Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Lindsay Pueblo Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 920 S. Lindsay Road in Mesa, Arizona where the visitation will begin 1 hour prior. The concluding service and interment will begin at 12:30 P.M. at the City of Mesa Cemetery, 1212 N. Center Street in Mesa, Arizona.
