Mr. Elijah “Chief” Wesley, age 91, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at the James Haley Veterans Hospital. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Wilson Funeral Home, 3000 N. 29th Street, Tampa, Florida with Rev. Dr. Delores Cain, officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with Military Honors.

Mr. Wesley was a native of Tucker, Arkansas, where he received his education. He enlisted in the military, following high school, where he served over 20 years receiving numerous medals and accolades, in both the United States Army and United States Air Force. He later moved to Tampa, Florida where he resided for over 63 years. Mr. Wesley was a proud member of the Carmichael Lagree Post #167 for over 40 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Celia Wesley; siblings, Roger, Elisha, Everlena, Martha, Mary, and Sefronia; son, Neal Wesley and son-in-law, Willie Prince Reddish.

His memories will be cherished by his devoted and loving wife, Lena Wesley; 3 daughters, Erma Anderson (Lee Ernest Sr.) of Tallahassee, Linda Reddish and Deborah Wesley of Tampa; 12 grandchildren, Valerie Anderson-Ward (Byron), Lee Ernest Anderson, Jr. (Artesa), Katrina Snead-Golphin (Jayvis), LaDena Mouling, Jenaya Anderson-Hayes (Shawn), LaShawn Weathers (Dwayne), Adrian Wesley, Calvin Anderson (Kerri), Kelvin Anderson (Ke’Shea), Adrian Wesley, Kevin Wesley (Patricia), Almitra Wesley; 21 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; sister, Myrtle Wesley of Tucker, Arkansas; a host of nieces, nephews; sister-in-law, Lula M. Coats (L.C.) of Little Rock, Arkansas and other relatives, and friends.

There will be a viewing on Friday, March, 21, 2014 from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel.
