Rudolph R. “Rudy” Dreiling, 93, Hays, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the Hays Good Samaritan Society.

He was born December 22, 1920 in Victoria, Kansas the son of Aloysius and Anna (Gabel) Dreiling. He married Ottilia Leiker on June 24, 1940 in Munjor, Kansas. She died March 8, 2001. He was a farmer, was employed at Hays Flour Mill, M & W Drilling Company, and various other oil companies. He loved to dance, mow grass, and enjoyed working. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Munjor, and the St. Francis Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #11492.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Gamble and husband Dean of Hays, KS and Patricia Tasset of Augusta, Kansas, his very special caregiver, Virginia Jacobs, ten grandchildren, three step grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, eight step great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, and three step great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his brother Adolph Dreiling, his sister Martina Leiker, his son-in-law Lloyd Nichols, and his son-in-law Lowell Tasset, a great granddaughter, a great great grandson, and many half and step brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Friday, March 14, 2014 at the St. Francis Church, Munjor. Burial will be in the St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Thursday and from 9:00 am until 9:40 on Friday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. A parish vigil service will be at 6:00 pm followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30, both on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested in Rudy’s memory to the St. Francis Knights of Columbus Council #11492 or to the St. Francis Church, in care of the funeral home.
