Joyce died at Sidney Health Extended Care in Sidney, Montana on May 3, 2014. She was born November 2, 1919 according to her mother, but due to a clerical error on her birth certificate November 7 was always in question throughout her life. She was the only daughter of two children born to Robert & Margaret (O’Neil) Johnson in rural Froid, Montana.

She attended and later graduated from high school in Froid in 1939. Joyce Johnson married Edward Deubner in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 14, 1941. To this union were born four children: one daughter Mary and three sons: Roy, Wayne and Donald. Joyce and Eddie lived in California until the fall of 1942, when they returned to the family farm in Sheridan County because of her father-in-law’s failing health. After Ed’s father’s death , Ed and Joyce took over the family farm. In Ephesians 5:25, God commanded us: "Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her." Joyce affirmed that her husband Edward did this.

She had a gift for hospitality. The kitchen was always open to those that stopped by. If her sons’ were not there first, the cookie jar was always full. She was a grand cook with the most caring heart. Her family meant everything to her, raising four wonderful children who have carried on the strong family values and traditions in which she and Eddie lived by. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her home was full of many pictures displaying her pride. She was a baptized member of the Froid Lutheran Church and she was active in ladies aid, her church bible groups and bible studies. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert Johnson in 1973;her husband of over 56 years Edward Paul Deubner in 1997; her mother Margaret (O’Neil) Johnson in 1986 and her brother Jack Johnson in 1947

Surviving Joyce are her daughter and son-in-law: Mary & Frank DiFonzo of Sidney; her sons and daughters-in-law: Roy & Cheryl Deubner of homestead; Wayne & Carolyn Deubner of Brockton; Donald and Cindy Deubner of Homestead; eight grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.
