Jake Denver Burrell

Canton - Jake D. Burrell Sr., 78, of Canton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at the Homestead at MedWest in Clyde.
A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Larry and Gladys Murray Burrell. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Joann Stamey Burrell, and a grandson, Bobby Burrell.
Mr. Burrell proudly served in the U.S. Army, and retired from Champion International Paper after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veteran's, and was a past member of the Y's Men Club, Greenville Bulldog Club, and the Bulldog Club of America. He was also a member of Rockwood United Methodist Church in Canton.
Surviving are his sons, Jake Denver Burrell Jr., and wife, Gail, of Myrtle Beach, SC, Jeff Burrell of Canton; sister, Jane Shipman and husband, Riley, of Canton; niece, Tammy Shipman; nephew, Larry Shipman, and great nephew, Michael.
A gathering to celebrate Mr. Burrell's life will be held on Saturday, April, 12, 2014 at Rockwood United Methodist Church from 11 AM to 3 PM.
Donations may be made in Mr. Burrell's honor to your choice of either, Rockwood UMC, 288 Crabtree Mountain Rd, Canton, NC 28716, or the Homestead at MedWest, 127 Sunset Ridge Rd., Clyde, NC 28721
