Gary A. Reed, 67, Browns Valley, MN, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014, in Nisswa, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 22, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Browns Valley with Father David Breu officiating. Music will be provided by organist Ginny Westbrock and vocalists Todd Johnson and the St. Anthony Choir.

Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Browns Valley. Pallbearers will be members of the former Reed Trucking softball team.

Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church. Visitation will continue Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Gary Allen Reed was born July 8, 1946, in Webster, SD, to Richard and Ruth (Wolter) Reed. He attended school in Browns Valley, graduating in 1964. Following graduation, Gary worked for Les Gardner Trucking. He also worked as a commercial fisherman with his father since he was very young fishing the lakes of North Dakota. In 1985 he established his own fishing business and operated it until the flood of 2007. Gary purchased his first truck in 1981 and has operated Reed Trucking ever since.

On July 21, 1990, Gary married Brenda Spaude at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton, MN. Gary loved his black labs and his country. He was extremely proud of the fact that his father and five uncles served in World War II.

Gary sponsored the Browns Valley softball team for many years. He loved Minnesota Vikings football, and spending time on the water, especially in Key West and the Gull Lake area. Gary also enjoyed collecting and restoring old cars.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Reed of Browns Valley; two brothers-in-law, Don (Jolene) Spaude of Mille Lacs Lake, MN, and Randy (Brenda) Spaude of Brownton; sisters, Julie (Marlin) Heitmann of Aberdeen, SD, Darlene (Roger) Hendricks of Beardsley, MN, Kathy (Mark) Baer of Aberdeen, Janice (Don) Montonye of Dumont, MN, Renette (Jeff) Birdsall of Hot Springs, SD, and Georgia (Dan) Sorenson of Evansville WY.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Richard Dana.
