Ralph Wieser, 86, Rosholt, SD, died Friday, March 14, 2014, at the Rosholt Care Center.

Funeral Mass was Monday, March 17, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Rosholt with Father Joseph Hitpas, OMI, officiating. Music was provided by organist Lana Sand.

Burial was in the St. Nicholas Cemetery, rural Rosholt. Honorary pallbearers were the Rosholt Care Center staff, NFO members and the Coffee Crew. Active pallbearers were Gregg Wieser, Dan Zach, Dan Foltz, Niel Braun, AJ Wieser, Jesse Burchill, Erin Braun, Donald Wieser and Dennis Wieser.

Visitation was Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt. There was a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Visitation continued Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Ralph Henry Wieser was born November 9, 1927, in White Rock Township, SD, to August and Anna (Brockhaus) Wieser. He was baptized at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in rural Rosholt. He attended school in White Rock Township and the St. Francis Academy in Hankinson, ND, through the eighth grade. At the age of 16, Ralph began farming with his dad and brothers. On May 4, 1955, Ralph was drafted into the U.S. Army and served overseas with Company C, 826th Tank Battalion. He was honorably discharged March 20, 1957.

On October 3, 1960, Ralph married Janice LeClair at St. John’s Catholic Church in Rosholt. After their marriage, Ralph continued to farm. Farming was Ralph’s vocation, and he missed it when he retired in 1997. Ralph made his home in the Rosholt Care Center in December 2012.

Ralph was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, where he served as a lector and a Eucharistic minister. He also belonged to the Catholic Order of Foresters. Ralph was a member of the NFO, Roberts County Conservation Department, and served as a township supervisor. Ralph was also active in 4-H and was an EMT.

Ralph enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. He also loved going to watch St. John’s University football games.

Survivors include his wife Janice of Rosholt; four children, Mark Wieser of St. Cloud, MN, Myron Wieser of Rosholt, Laurie Wieser of Wheaton, MN, and Joe Wieser of Lakeville, MN; granddaughter, Kiara Anderson of Wheaton; and sister, Helen Zach of Rosholt.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, August and Anna; daughter, Brenda Joelene; eight brothers, Joseph, Mike, Lawrence, Fred, Ray, Vic, Tony, and Fr. Andrew Wieser, OMI; and four sisters, Josephine, Dorothy, Tillie, and Lucille.
