Sharon E. Hamling, 71, Rosholt, SD, passed away Friday, March 14, 2014, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Funeral Mass was Tuesday, March 18, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Rosholt with Father Tony Dummer, OMI, officiating. Music was provided by organist Lana Sand.

Burial was in the St. Nicholas Cemetery, rural Rosholt. Pallbearers were James Hohertz, Steve Harles, Mike Whempner, Todd Whempner, Eugene Hamling, and Mike Hamling.

Visitation was Monday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt. There was a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Sharon Elizabeth was born January 22, 1943, in Willmar, MN, to George and Margaret (Schmidt) Littleton. She attended school in Britton, graduating from Britton High School in 1961. After high school, she attended NDSCS. Sharon’s family later moved to Rosholt and owned the Rosholt Locker. It was here she met Henry.

On September 7, 1963, Sharon married Henry Leo Hamling at St. John’s Catholic Church in Rosholt. After their marriage, they lived near New Effington and then by Rosholt before purchasing their farm south of Rosholt. Henry and Sharon farmed for 48 years in Harmon Township. Sharon was also a full-time wife and mother.

Sharon was a Catechism teacher for many years at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Browns Valley and also at St. John’s Catholic Church in Rosholt. She was also active in the church auxiliary.

Sharon's hobbies included reading, playing cards, and watching old movies. She also liked to drive around and look at the countryside. Years ago, Sharon enjoyed dancing at the Ranch in Sisseton. Sharon loved her kids and being a farm wife.

Survivors include her four children, Paul Hamling of Rosholt, Garner Hamling of Rosholt, Kristi (Del) Redlin of Clear Lake, SD, and Shannon (Troy) Rasmussen of Elkton, SD; five grandchildren, Dwayne and Richard Redlin, and Tyler, Riley and Shaedan Rasmussen; a sister, Susan Littleton Mader of Britton; a paternal aunt, Marge Nilles of Casselton, ND; three nephews, Doug Mader of Fort Collins, CO, Ronald Mader of Las Vegas, and Robert (Leslie) Mader of Marshfield, WI; five sisters-in-law, Eleanor (Ted) Harles of Lidgerwood, ND, Mary Ann Whempner of Wilmot, SD, Dorothy (Larry) Neuberger of Eden, SD, Margaret (Marc) Smaldone of Hermosa, CA, and Darlene (Don) Halseth of Riverdale, ND; three brothers-in-law, Anthony (Gloria) Hamling of Williston, ND, and Dennis (Bonnie) Hamling of Rosholt, and Lawrence Harles of Lidgerwood.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; infant son, Timothy; a sister-in-law, Delores Harles; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Hamling.
