Margaret Angela Lillegard, 89, a longtime resident of the Hillsboro community currently of Beaverton passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 at the Providence St Vincent Medical Center in Portland

Recitation of the Holy Rosary and Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2014 at St Matthew Catholic Church; 475 SE 3rd Ave in Hillsboro.

Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the Mass held in the Parish hall.

Rite of Christian burial will take place at Willamette National cemetery in Portland, OR.

Margaret was born on January 21,1925 in Hillsboro, OR She was the fourth oldest of nine children born to Ben and Maria (VanNiewenhuyse) Coussens. She was raised on the family farm and attended high school at Hillsboro Union High graduating with the Class of 1943. She later attended Pacific University for two years. Following college Margaret had worked in the office for Terminal Ice in Hillsboro.

She met her future husband, Albert Vincent Lillegard while at a dance they were soon married and started their home in Hillsboro. Albert died in 2000 and Margaret decided to move closer to her children in Beaverton in 2002.

She was a homemaker and a devoted mother to her two daughters Karen and Joan. She was a volunteer at their school while they were growing up as well as a community volunteer at The Washington County Election Board. Margaret was a master oil painter, loved jigsaw puzzles, and enjoyed time spent with her five grandsons and three great-granddaughters.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents and three siblings; Albert Coussens, Sr. Agnes Coussens and Madeline Foelker.

Survivors include her two daughters and their spouses; Karen and Kevin Kelly of Portland, Joan and Byron Zahler of Portland, five grandsons and their spouses; Ian and Bethany Kelly , Conor and Anna Kelly, Patrick Kelly, Stephen and Angela Zahler, Michael Zahler all of Portland and three great grandchildren; Erinne, Caitlin and Elizabeth.

The family suggest donations in Margaret's name to the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon Retirement Fund in honor of Sister Agnus Coussens or to St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Hillsboro.
