Richard Eugene Piper

September 25, 1928 - April 27, 2014 <-

Richard Eugene Piper was born Sept. 25, 1928, in Greenfield, Iowa. He passed away peacefully April 27, 2014, at age 85. Richard grew up in rural Iowa and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Upon his return from the service, he moved to Oregon, earned a B.A. in Sociology from Oregon State University and ultimately settled in Portland, where he made his home for the duration of his life. Richard was an accomplished woodworker with a particular talent for antique furniture restoration. He loved jazz and classical music and was a patron of the Oregon Ballet and Portland Symphony. Richard is survived by his daughter, Sydney Hart (Daniel); son, Douglas Piper of Portland; brother, Dean (Darlene) of Bellevue, Wash.; and grandchildren, Amy and Jeffrey Hart and Franklin and Quinn Piper. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Doernbecher Children's Hospital Foundation, Mailstop 45, P.O. Box 4000, Portland, OR 97208-9583.
