Ronald Gene Wright

March 7, 1953 - March 26, 2014 <-

Ronald Gene Wright was received into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on March 26, 2014. Ronnie, a resident of Sweeny, TX, was 61 years and 19 days old.

Ronnie was born March 7, 1953 in Odessa, Ector County, Texas to Helen L. (Crager) and Clifton C. Wright.

He married Genevia Ann Davis on May 29, 1976. They are the parents of two daughters: Rachel Ann Helen (Wright) Chilton and Heather Marie (Wright) Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Genevia; his daughters: Rachel Chilton (Coy) , and Heather Brown (Christopher); 3 grandchildren: Huntly Gene Chilton, Emmaly Cheyenne Chilton and Wyatt Clifton Chilton; a brother: Richard C. Wright (Doris) and sister: Shari Kay Gordon (Richard);several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and sister-in-law, Judy Davis.

He attended Odessa Public Schools, graduating from Permian High School in 1971; he remained an avid “MOJO” fan all his life.

Ronnie was a member of First Baptist Church in Sweeny, the Lions’ Club and the Day Lily Society.

He was a teacher in the Windham School System for 26 years and since his retirement has been a substitute in Sweeny and West Columbia in Junior and Senior High School.

Christmas was his favorite time of the year; and for many years, he delighted the children of this area by being a very jolly Santa. But, Ronnie also believed giving was not just something we do at Christmas but should be all year long.

He enjoyed children, especially those in the nursery at First Baptist where he and Genevia served as volunteers. He will be greatly missed by his family and a large host of friends.

In honor of Ronnie’s great love for Christmas, the family suggests wearing the Christmas colors of red or green for his service.

Services will be held 2:00pm, Saturday, March 29, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Sweeny with Pastors John Price and Mark Rabun officiating. Burial will follow at Sweeny Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. Serving as pallbearers will be Rick Wright, Zachary Cummins, Jack Davis and Richard Standifer.
