Mike Rink

March 25, 1977 - June 2, 2014 <-

Mike passed away Monday June 2nd at St. Joseph’s hospital surrounded by family and friends. He was larger than life. Mike will be loved and remembered by everyone who knew him. He was honest, easy going, a joker, generous, protective, laid back; the list goes on and on. He would give the shirt off his back if you asked him to help you. Even after death, he gave sight to others by donating his corneas.

Mike was born March 25, 1977. He was the youngest child of Dave and Donna. He was raised in Tacoma where he graduated from Lincoln High School and went to work for the city. He was always so proud of his work. He worked hard so he could play hard. He often said he didn’t have hobbies but he had passions. He LOVED cars. He would sit and look through catalogs with Wyatt so they could pick their favorite cars. He bought a dune buggy years ago that was originally his Uncle Paul’s. Mike used love, time, and money to completely restore the buggy. He helped spark the entire family to buy and begin restoring dune buggies. He enjoyed being on the water and the outdoors. As a kid he spent his summers at Mike’s Beach Resort, most often zooming around the cove in a small fishing boat. As a teen he’d head there to camp with friends. He learned the hard way when you shouldn’t eat the oysters! Blue Lake was a love of his later in life. He was most at home on his Dad’s pontoon boat. He spent time cruising the lake much like he cruised Ruston Way as a teen. Blue Lake gave him a place to relax, hang with family and friends, and enjoy life to the fullest. His dogs were also a big part of his life. When Blue was a puppy, she went everywhere with that kid. She sat shotgun for a long time. Then Bailey came along and gave Blue someone to cause trouble with. By far his number one passion in life is Wyatt. He loves that little boy more than words can express. Mike really loved being a dad. He would have done anything for Wyatt. Mike leaves behind a circle of friends and family members that will never forget how amazing he was. He is survived by his son Wyatt, parents Dave & Donna, sister Jen (Chris), and niece Natalie.

Services will be Friday June 6th at 1pm at Our Lady Queen of Heaven, 14601 A St., Tacoma, WA 98444 with a reception to follow. There will be a bonfire gathering at Dave and Donna’s after the reception and all are welcome to come by to celebrate Mike. We are creating a book of memories for Wyatt to read as he grows older. Please bring pictures and write something that you remember about Mike.
